I swear a celebrity makes a cameo in my dreams practically every night. The celebrity dream is also my favorite type of dream to interpret because, for the dreamer, the various celebrities that have made an appearance seem completely random. But as I always say, NOTHING IN A DREAM IS RANDOM. It’s fun to help the dreamer connect the dots between the celebrity and their own life. There is ALWAYS a connection and when it is found… so is the message.

Here’s an example of a celebrity dream I recently helped a client with…

Last night’s dream was EPIC! I quit my job to go be in a movie with Ronda Rousey and I was going to be a dish washer. What could that mean? – Anonymous, Modesto, CA

Lauri: In real life do you want to quit your job? If not, then there is likely something else in your life that requires a lot of work, like a relationship or a project, that you wish to quit. Ronda Rousey is the fighter in you. What situation is a battle for you right now? Rhonda also suffered a humiliating defeat. What is causing you to feel humiliated or defeated? Since this dream was all about being in a movie, this may be an issue that is playing out in front of others. Your role is a dish washer, which is your dreaming mind telling you to clear the air or clean up the mess, so to speak.

Anonymous replies: Interesting. I am fighting for something I shouldn’t be fighting for, a very messy situation. Something I desperately want and shouldn’t be part of. Long story short, I have been dealing with my flirtatious husband’s actions and decided to start living MY own life. Someone from my past has resurfaced and you could say we are now involved.

Lauri: Think hard about it and ask yourself why you think your dreaming mind chose Ronda to symbolize you right now.

Anonymous replies: Ronda is tough as nails and I believe she will win again. In the same way, I have reclaimed myself and refuse to be treated so badly. I deserve better. I don’t want to live a sad life always wanting more and being humiliated by a husband that flirts with other women. I am ready to end this marriage, just not sure how to get started. Thank you. The brain is amazing.

Check out my Pin Up art!

Yes indeed. The brain truly is amazing and has a really cool way of using celebrities to illustrate the different parts of our self. The next time you get a celebrity in your dream, ask yourself these questions:

What is the celebrity in your dream best known for?

Is it a character they play? Can you relate to that character in your life right now?

Is it a movie? Does that movie fit your life right now?

Is it a song? Does the title or the lyrics of the song make sense to your current situation?

Or is it something else they are known for like the dream above where Ronda Rousey is known for being a fighter? How does that quality apply to you?

These questions should help you see how the celebrity in the dream is representing something about yourself and how the celebrity’s actions in the dream are advice you are giving yourself.

Want to be able to connect the dots in your dreams and find the powerful message waiting for you?

Don’t you just love it when a celebrity makes a cameo appearance in your dream? Whether it’s Oprah Winfrey, Madonna or Donald Trump, you can be certain your dreaming mind chose him or her for a very good reason. The best way to figure out why a celebrity is co-starring with you in your dream is to ask yourself what it is that celebrity is best known for. Is it a character they have played on TV or in the movies? Can you relate that character or show to your life right now? Is it a song? If so, does the title or the lyrics speak to you right now? Whether you are a fan or not, there is something about that celebrity that your inner mind connects with and it uses that celebrity to convey a message to you, about you so that you can continue to shine.

The following is from my nationally syndicated newspaper column The Dream Zone and is a PERFECT example of how the celebrities in our dreams provide more than entertainment value… they come with a very important message.

Dear Lauri,
Last night I dreamed that I was going to have sex with Lenny Kravitz. He was waiting for me in a bedroom and I was in my co-worker’s bathroom for an hour getting ready: showering, shaving, putting on makeup, etc. I was wondering if he would fall asleep waiting for me, and kept looking at the clock because it was 10pm and I was afraid I would be late getting home. Boy I wish that dream was real! – Christine 44, Wear, NH

Lauri: In real life what are you preparing for that seems to be taking longer than anticipated? Lenny Kravitz is a clue… and a very nice clue at that! When a celebrity appears in our dreams the message they hold for us can usually be found in a role that they have played, a movie they have been in or in the title or lyrics of a song that they sing. When you think of Lenny, what comes to mind? Whatever it is, that is where we are going to get our “Aha! Moment.”

Christine replies: I’m having a hard time pinpointing an answer to your first question but I’ve been wanting to change careers and get my high school diploma to go to college, but that isn’t something I‘ve started working on. I also haven’t been losing the weight and I’ve been attempting that for some time now. And I do remember being paranoid thinking he would think I was fat.

Lauri replies: This may be what your dream is connected to, how long YOU are taking to do what is necessary to get that diploma, change careers AND ESPECIALLY lose weight. This is where I think Lenny Kravitz comes in. Most recently he was in The Hunger Games. He must represent the hunger you have to deal with in order to lose the weight you want that is unfortunately taking too long to come off.

Christine replies: Yes! This totally makes sense!

Remember, celebrities are known, seen, recognized and applauded; the celebrity in your dream is portraying a part of you that wants recognition and approval, and it is most likely connected to what that celebrity is best known for. So give yourself a critique of your performance in life lately. Do you deserve two thumbs up and applause, or boos and hisses?

No matter the amount of success, fanfare and awards celebrities achieve, they still have some batshit crazy dreams just like the rest of us…

Madonna 20 VMA awards

Madonna Has Recurring Nightmares of Being Attacked with A Knife. More specifically, she is attacked by a dwarf with a knife! This nightmare suggests Madonna is feeling victimized in real life. Knives in particular can symbolize cutting, emotionally wounding remarks.

Madonna faces a lot of criticism from the media and the public in general. While it may not bother her while she’s awake, it clearly bothers her while she sleeps. And the dwarf? That’s her fear of being dwarfed or diminished in the public eye. Let’s face it, she’s a BIG celebrity and she does everything in a BIG way. However, criticism does bring her ego down to size… of course, she won’t let that show!

If you ever have a dream involving a knife, ask yourself if you have been the victim of someone’s cutting remarks lately. If not, then there may be a person or a behavior you need to cut out of your life!

Taylor Swift 7 VMA awards

One of Taylor’s recurring dreams involves her being framed for murder! Recently Taylor Swift opened up to Dave Barry of Capitol FM, a radio station in the UK about this nightmare, “I always have nightmares that I’m being framed for murder and then I’m being framed SO well that I can’t remember if I did it or not in the dream. So that really winds me up and then I’m just freaked out for the next couple of days.”

I think this little tidbit is VERY juicy! Without having the opportunity to personally talk with Taylor (interviewing the dreamer is the best way to figure out the meaning of the dream) this is my professional assessment:

Death in dreams is usually about something coming to an end in the dreamer’s life, typically a natural ending or change that is occurring. Murder is a forced death, therefor in dreams it is often about a forced ending in waking life. Now, what we all know – and quite frankly love – about Tay Tay, is that she goes through relationships like a bag of Lays potato chips. We love this about her because her break ups inspire her songs.

These recurrent break ups are likely the murders in her dreams. There is also confusion about whether she actually committed the murders or not; she is framed for the murders. This shows us that in real life, Taylor doesn’t feel she is at fault for the break up (a break up is a forced ending, like a murder is a forced death). But as time goes on, she probably questions herself, “Hmmm. Maybe I was too clingy or too demanding,” for example (she’s framed so well she can’t remember if she actually did murder). But here’s what’s sad about it guys, feeling that she is framed for murder in the dreams might mean in real life she feels used in relationships. She feels used over and over again because she has this same dream over and over again.

Doesn’t that just make you want to hug her tight and say, “There there Taylor. Now now.”?

Rihanna 7 VMA awards

Rihanna had a nightmare of a building collapse. She told it to me back in 2005, when we were both on the air on KZHT in Salt Lake City. She had recently had a nightmare that she and her brother watched a plane crash into a skyscraper. The Skyscraper then collapsed onto her brother. While this nightmare is eerily reminiscent of 9/11, it is actually more about Rihanna’s relationship with her little brother. Planes often symbolize that which you have high hopes for or that in your life you hope will take off.

At the time, Rihanna’s first hit “Pon De Replay” (Hey Mr. DJ) was out and her career, like a plane, was taking off. The building is the relationship she had “built” with her brother. It is presented as a sky scraper because she and her brother were very close and the relationship was a BIG part of her life. The plane hits the skyscraper, causing it to collapse because Rihanna – at the time – was worried her busy schedule and jet setting all over the world would conflict with her relationship and that her absence would harm her brother emotionally. As horrible as the nightmare is, it confirms the deep emotional bond she and her brother share and serves as a reminder to keep that bond alive no matter how big her career gets… and man, did her career get big since then!

The unfamiliar house dream is actually a very common dream. You see, the house – whether it’s your actual house, a house you used to live in or some random dream house – represents YOU! The house in your dream represents everything about you and how you live. The style of the home, the condition of the home, what happens in the home, even the rooms in the home are connected to you and how you feel about your self as well as what is going on inside the psyche that your body houses. The dreaming mind uses the home in order to show you yourself and your state of mind in the form of a physical structure so you can better understand your own personality construct, thought construct and even body construct. Look at your house dreams as an honest blueprint of your current self image.

In most cases, dreaming of an unfamiliar house suggests the dreamer is still getting to know her or himself and is discovering things about themselves they didn’t previously know, like discovering new talents, skills, opinions or ideas. Dave Grohl, being a musician and song writer, it would make sense that he’s constantly coming up with new ideas and opinions. However, the unfamiliar house dream can also mean that you are not feeling “at home” in your current life, that what you are dealing with or where your life is at is not comfortable or what you you think it should be. This could also fit for Dave because in that same US Weekly article he states that he’s been touring almost every year since he was 17. He literally isn’t “at home” a good portion of each year so his life is made up of unfamiliar places.

We all get nightmares from time to time, you know, those dreams that are so frightening they jolt us awake with our heart beating out of our chest and sweat dripping down our brow. Even celebrities experience this dark side of dreaming. As terrifying as they are, nightmares reveal a lot about ourselves and a lot about these celebrities who were brave enough to share them. Do you get any of these nightmares? If so, share them in the comments.

Katie Couric Has Recurring Nightmares of Plane Crashes

When I was a guest on her show back in April of 2013, she told me that she gets this nightmare quite a bit. Neither you nor Katie should cancel any travel plans because this dream is not showing you the future, instead it means you have suffered a big let down in your real life. Something you had high hopes for came crashing down instead… along with your spirits. Katie has suffered many let downs, which caused emotional crashes: She lost her husband to colon cancer, then her sister to pancreatic cancer. She lost her gig on the CBS Evening News just to name a few. If this is your recurring dream, try not to take things so hard. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep on keeping on. Like Katie, you’re a survivor!

Madonna Has Recurring Nightmares of Being Attacked with A Knife

More specifically, she is attacked by a dwarf with a knife! This nightmare suggests Madonna is feeling victimized in real life. Knives in particular can symbolize cutting, emotionally wounding remarks. Madonna faces a lot of criticism from the media and the public in general. While it may not bother her while she’s awake, it clearly bothers her while she sleeps. And the dwarf? That’s her fear of being dwarfed or diminished in the public eye. Let’s face it, she’s a BIG celebrity and she does everything in a BIG way. However, criticism does bring her ego down to size.

Celine Dion Has Recurring Nightmares of Choking

Choking happens in the throat and the throat is where our voice comes from so to choke in a dream can mean you have a hard time speaking up in real life. You may tend to choke back your words rather than voicing your opinion. For Celine, she chokes on a cold apple in her dreams. This makes sense because her voice is AMAZING and it is how she makes her living; it has been very “fruitful” for her, hence the apple. Any singer will tell you they must “warm up” their voices before a performance so a voice going cold, like the cold apple, would be a nightmare! For Celine, these dreams are reminding her to take it easy on her voice so she doesn’t “choke” during a performance.

Taylor Swift Has Recurring Nightmares of Murdering

Hard to believe that America’s sweetheart has recurring dreams of being a murderer, isn’t it? To murder in a dream usually isn’t a bad thing. It means you have successfully put an end to something in real life. In Taylor’s dreams, the murder doesn’t actually take place but rather she has knowledge that she has murdered someone, “I always have nightmares that I’m being framed for murder and then I’m being framed SO well that I can’t remember if I did it or not in the dream. So that really winds me up and then I’m just freaked out for the next couple of days.”

Rihanna’s Nightmare of a Building Collapse

Back in 2005, Rihanna and I were on the air together on KZHT in Salt Lake City. She told me she had recently had a nightmare that she and her brother watched a plane crash into a skyscraper. The Skyscraper then collapsed onto her brother. While this nightmare is eerily reminiscent of 9/11, it is actually more about Rihanna’s relationship with her little brother. As with Katie Couric’s dream, planes often symbolize that which you have high hopes for or that in your life you hope will take off. As horrible as the nightmare is, it confirms the deep emotional bond she and her brother share and serves as a reminder to keep that bond alive no matter how big her career gets… and man, her career did her career get big since then!

While nightmares may be the scariest dreams of all, they are also the most important dreams of all because they shine a spotlight on a difficult issue we need to take care of. I have an entire chapter on nightmares in my book Dream on It, Unlock Your Dreams Change Your Life. When you can understand your nightmares, you can make them stop!

“This is an AMAZING book! It was given to me as a gift and I love it! I could hardly put it down. I refer back to it often to interpret my dreams now. I loved it so much I recommend it to everyone I know.” – Mel Martin, Amazon reviewer

Elvis would have been 83 today and in honor of his birthday I say we delve deep into his psyche! Whatya say?

As most Elvis fans know, he was born a twin. Sadly, his brother Jesse was stillborn. As the surviving twin, this is something that haunted Elvis his entire life. One day, in 1977 – shortly before his own death – he opened up to his good friend and hairstylist Larry Geller:

“Larry, listen, I’m going to tell you something, and it might even sound strange, but it’s something I’ve secretly thought about before. Maybe, maybe it was me. Maybe it was something I did, ya know? Who knows, maybe when we were in the womb together we were fighting like Jacob and his twin like it says in the Bible. Man that story always stuck with me. Maybe I was like Jacob who tried to stop his brother from being born first. Hey, I’m just saying…anything’s possible.

Elvis declared excitedly, “You won’t believe the dream I just had. Man, it was so real. An’ I can’t remember dreaming about my brother Jesse Garon since I was a little kid. But there we were together – on stage. Seemed like thousands of people in the audience, and they were screaming at us. It was wild! We were dressed alike, wearing identical white jumpsuits, and we were both playing matching guitars slung around our shoulders. . There were two blue spotlights, one shining on him, one on me. An’ I kept looking at him, and man, he was the spitting image of me. I’ll tell you something else Lawrence…” Elvis grinned. “Jesse had a way better voice than me.”

Wow… no interpretation needed.

When I first read about Robin William’s suicide, I immediately thought of the suicides in my family… not even a year has passed since the most recent one. Sigh. Depression can take even the best of us down. It is not to be taken lightly. It is a monster, a big, powerful, unrelenting monster. Depression will come and go. It is rarely a constant in the life of one who suffers from it so it is important to manage it as best you can, stay one step ahead of it if possible.

In my research, as a dream analyst, and in my own experiences I have found that our dreams will often give those of us that suffer from depression a heads up when another bout is on the way, making it a tad easier to manage. If you suffer from depression, look for these symbols, or variations of them, in your dreams:

Your dreams being void of color and in shades of grey.
– In dreams colors can symbolize your current emotional state. Yellow can represent fear, red can represent anger. Blue can point to the blues, but it is more a situational blues such as being blue over your best friend moving away rather than a full on depression. Overwhelming grey in a dream is more often a tell tale sign of depression as it indicates a lack of vibrancy in your mind.

Frequent falling and/or drowning dreams.
– When falling or drowning you are going down and that’s the operative word here, down. Depression brings you down. It is heavy. It’s like an elephant sitting on you. And it can feel like falling or drowning, like there is nothing to support you. Your emotions, your thoughts, your hopes, everything just keeps going down, down, down. Dreams bring to life what is going on in the psyche.

Something submerged below the surface of water about to emerge.
– This is one I get a lot, usually it is an alligator below the surface of the water but it has been other nondescript things. In this sort of dream the surface of the water would represent your emotional surface and the creature or object just below it is the depression getting ready to rise and show its ugly self beyond your ability to keep it pushed down.

Shadows and dark rooms.
– Dark rooms often symbolize the darkness within yourself. Often, a person will dream of a house that has a dark room in it (not the type of dark room that is used for photography but rather a room with no light) and the person is afraid to go in there. Sometimes they are feeling pushed in there by an unseen force. This dream is a big time warning that your dark depression needs you to focus on it so you can manage it. Shadows in dreams can often represent the part of the self that we consider our dark side, the Heisenberg to our Walter White, so to speak. If the shadow is becoming threatening to you in your dream, and it is a frequent dream then this could be your depression beginning to take over.

Rain and storms.
– Rain in dreams is a classic symbol for tears in real life, often tears you have not allowed yourself to shed. We all have situations that cause us to be sad but if the rain in your dream is frequent and especially if it’s a torrential downpour, this could be your depression getting ready to drench your psyche once again.

Obviously, we are all different and can have our own personal symbols for depression in our dreams but the ones mentioned above are fairly common. Often, they will show up in your dreams as a warning because your body is telling you a bout of depression is on the way. This will allow you to prepare for it. You can plan to spend some time outside with friends. Surround yourself with people who make your laugh. Go see a funny movie or volunteer. Helping others can do wonders for your psyche and your soul!

There are also times when you are already in the throws of darkness when these dreams happen. At that point your dreaming mind is merely showing you what the inside of your mind looks like. A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say. Sometimes seeing yourself in a different perspective can help you to make better decisions regarding your depression. Ug. I don’t want to be void of color on the inside. I really should get help, for example. These are the times you need to tell someone what’s going on with you. They will want to help you!

Most depressions don’t end in suicide, but enough of them do that we all need to take depression more seriously. If you have depression DO NOT BE EMBARRASSED to tell someone. At the very least, you can call a depression hotline. I Googled it so I could put one here in the post but there were so many! There is help everywhere so ask for it. Depression CAN be managed. Things can get better.

I’m the best in the business and can help you fully understand every part of your dream, find the issue that is causing the dream and the message and guidance your dream is giving you. It also has a dream dictionary in the back for easy reference. This book has been featured on Dr. Oz 3 times! You’ll be glad you have it on your bedside next time you have a strange or upsetting dream.

Whether it’s wandering the cinder blocked halls of your old high school with nothing on but your Nikes or catching your teeth as they fall out of your mouth one by one, we ALL get a certain dream over and over and over again. Even celebrities aren’t immune to the frustrating recurring dream! Read on and find out if your recurring dream is covered here and which celebrity shares that dream with you…

Teeth Falling Out
Lucky you! If you get this dream you share it with the gorgeous Halle Berry. This also means that you and Halle share the same recurring behavior of speaking before thinking. Teeth in dreams typically symbolize your words. If they fall out in a dream you can probably connect it to something you allowed out of your mouth, something you said that you wish you could take back or that you wish you had worded differently.

Plane Crashes
Not so lucky you. This is not a fun dream to have, but if this is your recurring dream you and Katie Couric have a lot in common. When I was a guest on her show back in April of 2013, she told me that she gets this dream quite a bit.

Flying
Definitely lucky you! This is not only an awesome dream to experience again and again but you also share this dream with Anderson Cooper. Flying dreams happen when we are feeling really good about what is going on in our life, when we have reached a high goal we have set for our self or we are realizing our ability to reach higher levels in life and in career. In my research, I have found that adults who get recurring flying dreams are very high achievers. So if this is your dream, you and fellow high achiever Anderson Cooper should pat your selves on the back. Good job!

Find out what your dreams REALLY means, instantly and absolutely FREE!

Running Late/Almost Missing A Bus or Plane
This one is soooo frustrating. If this is your recurring dream then you have a lot in common with Diane Sawyer. She gets this dream a lot because she is constantly up against deadlines, what with being a journalist and delivering the news every evening. You probably have a high pressured, heavy deadline job as well. If not, but you still get this dream, then you may be up against self imposed deadlines, such as losing 10 lbs by the time the reunion rolls around, having a spouse and kid by the time you’re 28 or reaching a career goal before the end of the year, etc. In either case, you may want to find a way to either take it easy or take the stress off yourself. Life is short, why live it in a pressure cooker?

Being Attacked
Gah! This one is so scary. But if this is your recurring dream, Madonna would probably love to compare notes with you over coffee because this is her recurring dream. More specifically, she is attacked by a dwarf with a knife! None the less, this dream suggests you are feeling victimized in real life. Is someone around you always putting you down and criticizing you? Or is this something you are constantly doing to yourself? If so, knock it off. Sheesh. You have to be kind to yourself in this life. As for Madonna, she faces a lot of criticism from the media and the public in general.

Old Victorian Houses
If you dream of old houses then you have this dream in common with Madonna’s pal Gwyneth Paltrow. Houses in dreams symbolize the self, one’s state of mind and self image. Like Gwyneth, you may be a bit old fashioned in some areas; perhaps you have very good etiquette and impeccable manners or you believe in marriage before sex. In Gwyneth’s Victorian house dreams, she finds herself in the house while the house is being swept away by a river. This tells us that Gwyneth, despite all her refinement, tends to let herself get carried away with various emotional issues. While she seems cool as a cucumber in public, she may not always be able to hold it together in private.

Naked in Public
If this is your recurring dream you may be hoping you share it with someone like Beyonce or George Clooney, right? Well… if this is your recurring dream you share it with Meat Loaf! This dream tells us that you and Meat both have recurring concern about how others view you, not necessarily how others view you physically but how they look at you as an artist (in Meat’s case) or how they see you as a professional in your career or how good of a mother you are, etc. Are they noticing your mistakes? Do they not see you as highly as you would like them to? Did they see how nervous you were when you were giving that presentation in front of the board? In Meat Loaf’s dream, he’s actually naked on top of a bus. In your naked dreams, where are you?

Losing Your Purse or Wallet
You might be pleasantly surprised to know Mariah Carey gets this dream too. If this is your recurring dream then you and Mariah also share the fact that you suffer an identity crisis from time to time. We keep our money, credit cards and IDs in our purses and wallets so they will symbolize our self worth, our sense of self and the credibility we feel we deserve. To lose a purse or wallet in a dream means you feel you are either losing a sense of who you are, you are feeling worthless or you are not getting credit where credit is due. Mariah has mentioned many times that growing up biracial caused her to feel out of place so it makes sense that she would dream of trying to find her purse because she was always searching for identity, a sense of belonging and feeling valued.

Drowning
Do you wake up gasping for air after a drowning dream? So does Star Jones! Drowning dreams can be caused by a number of things: Depression, being overwhelmed with responsibility or even Sleep Apnea! If you wake up gasping for breath A LOT, then go to your doctor and get checked for Sleep Apnea, okay? But if you get the drowning dream frequently and don’t always wake up gasping for breath, then odds are it is connected to depression or feeling very overwhelmed. Star told me she was having this dream when I was on The View back in ’04. At the time she was in the midst of planning a wedding, being a host on The View and doing red carpet reports for E! News so I chalked it up to being overwhelmed.

Choking
This one can also be caused by Sleep Apnea if you get it a lot and wake up gasping. But if you don’t wake from this dream gasping then you will be happy to know you share this dream with Celine Dion! Choking happens in the throat and the throat is where our voice comes from so to choke in a dream can mean you have a hard time speaking up in real life. You may tend to choke back your words rather than voicing your opinion. For Celine, she chokes on a cold apple in her dreams! This makes sense because her voice is AMAZING and it is how she makes her living; it has been very “fruitful” for her, hence the apple. Any singer will tell you they must “warm up” their voices before a performance so a voice going cold, like the cold apple, would be a nightmare! For Celine, these dreams are reminding her to take it easy on her voice so she doesn’t choke during a performance.

Murder
Hard to believe that America’s sweetheart has recurring dreams of being a murderer, isn’t it? And if this is your recurring dream it may not make you feel much better knowing that Taylor Swift gets it too, huh? Well fear not.

Why do you keep murdering in your dreams? It may be that you have a recurring behavior of putting an end to things as well. Are you the type that tends to sabotage a good thing because deep down you feel you aren’t worthy? Or are you the type that nips things in the bud before they get out of hand? It could also be that there is one ongoing situation that needs to end but you haven’t fully accomplished it yet. In a nutshell, recurring murder dreams don’t mean you are a homicidal maniac but rather someone who ends things… whether those endings are good for you or not is a whole other story!

While it’s fun to find out which celebrity has the same recurring dream as you, it’s important that you know why we get recurring dreams. In my research I have found that they are caused by two main factors: 1. A recurring behavior pattern, whenever you exhibit the behavior you get the dream connected to it. 2. An ongoing issue that has yet to be resolved. For as long as the issue continues, so will the dream. Look at your dreams as if they were your mother, nagging you to death about an issue or behavior who only wants the best for you but won’t stop until you finally correct it. Except in some cases, like the recurring flying dream, as that is more of a high five from your subconscious mind than a nag.

My favorite type of dream to get is the star studded celebrity dream.

Here’s an example of a celebrity dream I helped a friend on Facebook with just yesterday:

Parker: Why does John Lithgow keep turning up in my dreams? There could not be a celebrity I am more indifferent towards. No matter where I am, or what I’m doing, Lithgow shows up. In the dreams, he never plays a pivotal role. For example, I’ll be at a baseball game with some friends and one of them will say “Hey don’t you know that guy?” and point to John Lithgow a couple rows down. I’ll say “Yeah, Hey Lithgow! What are you doin’?” And he’ll say, “Oh just watchin’ the game” and I’ll say “OK. Talk to ya later then” And the dream resumes as normal.

Me: All right young man. Here is the 1 question you must always ask yourself in order to figure out what the celebrity in your dream really means… What movie or character or song first comes to mind when you think of this celebrity?

Parker: Strangely enough, the first Lithgow moment that always seems to come to mind is his cameo on 30 Rock, were he gets lost in the building and can’t find his way out. He’s playing himself.

Me: Well as you probably know, he symbolizes a part of you. Perhaps a part of you that is lost, indecisive, not sure which direction to take next. Is there any area of your life where you feel this way? He was trying to get out of the building in that episode, right? Is there a situation or obligation in your life you don’t know how to get out of, something that is causing you to feel stuck?

Parker: Well, I did just tell a bunch of cub scouts who were touring the station yesterday that the biggest mistake they could ever make would be pursuing a career in radio…. so I guess my job qualifies as a situation I need to get out of.

Me: That makes sense! Plus, in addition to his appearance on 30 Rock he starred in 3rd rock from the sun. So that’s 2 references to rock that he is connected to. And your station is a rock station!

Parker: One day when I’m a windsurfing instructor in Tahiti I’ll look back and thank Lauri Quinn Loewenberg and dream Lithgow for encouraging me to make positive life changing decisions.

This past Monday I was on The Breakfast Show with Mad Dog and Maura on 99.9 Virgin Radio in Toronto (as I am every Monday) when Mad Dog asked me about his dream about Michael Cera. Seems like a completely random celebrity to dream about but once we’re able to find his personal association to this celebrity, it all makes absolute and complete sense.

If you have never had that dream where you’re back at your high school or college, wandering the halls trying to find your locker or sitting in Algebra class freaking out because you didn’t study for the test, then you might not be normal!

The back at school dream is in the top three most common dreams that is reported to me… daily! In fact, when I was on Katie Couric’s show, she told me her 90 year old mother STILL gets it! And that is good testimony to the fact that 10, 20 even 70 years after we graduate we still find ourselves, from time to time, within those cinder block walls at night.

I’m a victim of this dream too. There are many versions of the back at school dream and the one I get the most is where I find out I have to take my senior year or sometimes even all 4 years of high school all over again, even though I know I graduated. In fact, I had it just the other night and the very next morning when I was on the air on Beach 104 in Nags Head, NC one of the morning show hosts told me he had that same version of the dream the night before as well! So that inspired me to blog about it because, clearly, it’s an epidemic!

My dream: I was back in the house I lived in in Nashville and I was putting on my old Catholic high school uniform. I was very upset because I had to take my whole senior year all over again even though I was certain I had already graduated. I was saying to myself, as I was getting dressed, “This is ridiculous! I don’t have time to spend all day at school. I have a son to raise and a business to run. I’ve done this already. I’m just going to tell them no, I’m not doing this.” THEN I’m walking through my junior high trying to find my locker and realizing I don’t even know my class schedule. Thankfully Marlo Thomas shows up and takes me to my class.

What it means: Usually, back at school dreams can be connected to what is going on in your job or career in real life. The stress you are dealing with in the dream should seem similar to the stress you are experiencing in waking life in your job.

Having to take my senior year all over again – This dream happens whenever I feel I have to prove myself in my career, whenever I have to prove to others that I know what I’m doing, that I have the knowledge, etc. This dream is so common for me, as you can imagine, because I am constantly having to prove that dreams actually have meaning AND that I really do know how to make sense of them. Now, this particular dream is connected to stress I was having over my Blogtalk radio show. The day before, my co-host Frankie and I were doing the show but were having all kinds of technical difficulties and I was ready to forget it and just reschedule the show for the following week. But I had been in that situation before, being on air with technical difficulties and managed to get through it. That’s why, in my dream, I said to myself, “I’ve done this already!” Whatever you tell yourself in a dream is always important because it is usually direction or reassurance you are giving yourself for your waking life. Even if another character in your dream is telling you something, it’s really YOU telling yourself.

Didn’t have my class schedule – When you can’t find your class or your locker in a dream or don’t have your schedule, it can be connected to uncertainty you are having about where you are in your job or career field. Maybe you aren’t in the right job for you or maybe you aren’t yet where you feel you should be in the corporate ladder, for example. For me, it is uncertainty about my Blogtalk radio show. I’ve been doing it for only a couple of months now and there are some uncertainties surrounding it. Is it going to be successful? Are people enjoying it? Are they learning from it? Where is it going to wind up? And after all that technical trouble and stress I had from the show the day before this dream, I was definitely questioning where this was going to go.

Marlo Thomas leading the way – Whenever you get a celebrity in your dream, it is usually more about what that celebrity is best known for (such as a song, a character they may have played or even a movie or show they were in) rather than it being about the celebrity. To me, when I think of Marlo Thomas I think of the 60’s sitcom she starred in called That Girl. Every show ended with someone exclaiming, “That girl!” in reference to Marlo’s character being the one that bungled something up or perhaps even did something right. In other words, she was always being identified and singled out at the end of each show and she was leading the way to where I was supposed to be in the dream because I need to remember that I am “that girl” people rely on to help them understand their dreams. This is who I am so no need to be so uncertain.

As for the morning show host who had the same version of the back at school dream, well, he was actually a fill-in host for the regular morning guy. And he was having to prove that he had the know-how to handle the morning show.

I just love putting the pieces of a puzzling dream together and finding the big picture! Being able to figure out your dreams isn’t just fun, it’s unbelievably helpful to your life!! We all are being given answers, directions, even warnings in our dreams every single night through our dreams… you just have to know how to understand the language and piece it together. It’s really not that hard. That’s why I wrote Dream On It, so the YOU can do this too, so that YOU can get those powerful messages hiding in your dreams, so that YOU can improve every area of your life by understanding the wisdom of your very own dreaming mind. Get yourself a copy and start understanding your dreams like never before!
