In our dreams, all kinds of strange things happen to our bodies. Me, I’ve had an invisible arm, strange objects imbedded underneath my skin and even had my teeth break into tiny pieces, to the point I was spitting, what seemed like, sand out of my mouth.

When trying to figure out what the strange things that happen to your body in a dream mean, it’s important to remember that all the different parts of your dream body represent all your different mental and emotional parts.  Your dreaming mind will give form to your mental and emotional abilities so you can better understand how well or how poorly you are using them.

Below is a dream about feet that is a great example of how this works. This is from my nationally syndicated newspaper column The Dream Zone…

Dear Lauri,
I had a dream the other night that I was wiping my feet off and the more I wiped the more my skin started flaking off. I kept brushing it off and pretty soon there were chunks of skin peeling off like huge blisters. Before I knew it, bone was exposed. It seemed never ending. It didn’t hurt but I was mortified!!! And it felt so real. What’s it mean? It’s freaking me out.

Lauri: Oh my God. Eew!! Okay, now that I have pulled myself together… I think you are wiping your feet off in the dream because in real life you are trying to rid yourself of some sort of negativity. Negativity will often appear as, or be referenced as, dirt in our dreams because negativity dirties up an otherwise clean psyche. Since you are wiping it from your feet, it must mean that you either put your foot down in some way or stood your ground over a negative issue. And just as you were peeling away the layers of your skin, have you been peeling away the layers trying to expose the root of what is causing this negative issue?

Marcy replies: Yes! I am trying to find out what is going on with my son. He’s been having very bad behavior lately but I don’t know why. It’s like a mystery and it’s driving me crazy. I just want to fix it because I’m afraid he’s not happy about something. I did finally “put my foot down” with his attitude. It’s been very stressful for me because he’s otherwise a great kid.

Lauri replies: Get down to the bare bones, is the message. Keep peeling away. It may be something you have to take “one step at a time,” hence your feet, but you’ll find it.

Marcy replies: Thank you. I will keep on it. This was so helpful I’m now going to buy one of your books!!

  1. Neat read Lauri! Gross, but positive. Shows how even the freakiest and most disturbing of dreams are good for us.

Hey! One of your paintings appeared in one of my dreams with quite an amazing plot. It was Walter White from "Breaking Bad"! In fact, I'm thinking I might write a story about it (ahh, the power of of dream inspiration! YAY!!) Your "Marilyn Dreams" also appeared a few times in my dreamscape on the wall of a public shower I was in when YOU (yes really!) stepped out of THAT VERY painting, walked up behind me and…UH OH! I can't say! I'm afraid it's too graphic to be revealed in public. You get the point I think. I've had it three times now and it's kind of annoying me because I just can't stop thinking about it AND it keeps coming back to haunt me!!!!!! So it must be very, very, extremely important.

I noticed I began having it after a long day of thinking about your artwork in conjunction with your dream work, as I've been a little concerned that one might get traded for another. So it might be related to my very mixed feelings about that. You even mentioned the movie "Avatar"…now what inspired that movie??? lol

More details on our next phone consultation if that's good by you of course. I don't want to make you squeamish. Just let me know.

I dreamed the other night that my throat hurt and was cut open as in surgery but I felt no pain. then I changed my hairstyle to one with bangs. I haven't had bangs in years.

Aw, this was a really nice post. Taking a few minutes and actual effort
    to make a very good article… but what can I say… I
hesitate a lot and never manage to get anything done.
