For the last couple of years, I keep dreaming that I am moving back in to the first home that my husband and I ever owned. Despite the fact that we have “moved on up” in the quality of the home we now own, I am always super excited in my dreams to be moving back in to this old fixer-upper.

*Yes, that is the actual house I dream about ->

It’s actually pretty common in dreams to find yourself residing in a home you haven’t stepped foot in for decades. I get asked about it all the time.

The best way I’ve found to figure out these “old house” dreams is to first realize that it’s not really about the house but rather who YOU were when you lived in that house. Remember, EVERYTHING in your dreams is symbolic of some part of you and some part of your life. So that former house in your dream is really some part of you that needs your attention and focus right now. What happens in the dream and even the rooms that are focused on in the dream are insightful clues.

Let’s use my dream as an example. In my dream we are moving back into the house. I am excited about it. And in most of these dreams I am unpacking and setting up the room in the house I used for art in real life. When I open the closet, I discover that the previous owners were in the process of expanding it into a playroom/man cave. It’s not yet finished but I am excited to find it and more than willing to finish it.

In real life, when I lived in that house, I spent a good deal of time painting, designing T shirts and greeting cards. When we eventually moved from that house, I stopped creating art because I was focusing on building my career as a professional Dream Analyst. So that house and that room in that house represent me the artist.

Just under two years ago, when the dreams began, I had started painting again (after 18 years of doing nothing with my art). Essentially, I was “moving back in” to the groove of being an artist. I am excited in my dreams because, in real life, I wake up excited every day knowing I am going to paint! The playroom/man cave that I discover in the closet that is under construction is my Pin Up portrait business. I started it in February of this year and it has been growing ever since. And I think the man cave aspect of the room is that many of my pin up portraits are given as gifts to husbands and boyfriends that hang them in their man caves. Ha ha!

The message of these dreams is: “This old part of you is back. Continue to build it and play with it. Continue to enjoy it. Don’t stop it like you did before.”

Just in case you are interested, you can see my custom Pin Up portraits here.

I just love my dreams. They never fail to guide me. Your dreams are doing the same for you. Here are some questions to ask yourself that will help you find the message in your former house dreams:

How would you describe yourself and your life when you lived in that house?

Is there anything in your current life that seems or feels similar to back then?
– If so, do you need to nurture that or move on from it?

How are you feeling in the dream?
– What in your current life causes you to feel the same way?

Is there any particular room that your dream seems to have more focus on?
– If so, what was that room typically used for? For example, a bathroom is used to cleanse and to relieve yourself. What from back then do you need to cleanse and relieve yourself of? A kitchen is used to prepare, to eat and to feed others. Is there anything from back then you are hungry for now?

In a nutshell, dreaming of your former home will typically mean there is something from back then you either need to bring into your current life or that you need to leave in the past. The questions above should help you figure out what it is. Life is all about growing and improving as we move forward in time. Our dreams advise us on what to leave behind and what to take with us along the way.

I think we’ve all had that dream where we discover a room or series of rooms in our house that doesn’t actually exist in real life. I get that one A LOT! In my dreams it is usually a whole other wing of the house I didn’t know was there or had forgotten was there.

These “secret room” dreams are typically connected to a part of the self that you are just discovering or that you are not using. In my case it is my art. All my life it has been a very big part of who I am, hence it being presented to me as an entire wing of the house, but I have absolutely neglected it to focus on my career as a Dream Analyst. So my dreams keep nagging me and telling me, “remember this part of you? Use it already!” Anyhoo…

Sometimes the secret room in our dreams can be scary, haunted or even demonic, which is the case with Ashley who is a lady that called in while I was on the air with The Morning Rush on KISS FM in Toledo OH yesterday morning. Have a listen because her dream reveals, not only an interesting family issue, but also the way the dreaming mind helps to bring closure to that which we have overcome. It’s only 6 minutes long and well worth the listen!

Ashley’s situation beautifully illustrates how our recurring dreams are connected to ongoing issues that need attention. Her dream is also a good example of how our recurring dreams guide us through the issue and even pat us on the back once we have resolved it.

Do you have a secret room dream? If so, you need to first try to identify what part of you or your life is not being used right now or has recently been discovered then compare the condition of the room and your feelings towards the room to this unused or newly discovered part of yourself. In my secret room dreams (or rather secret wing dreams) I wondered why I hadn’t been using this part of the house. And the funny thing about that is, I recently started painting again after 15 years. When I completed the painting I was VERY pleased with how well it turned out and I said to myself, “Why did I ever stop doing this?” Zing!

I like to think of our dreaming mind as our very own built-in therapist, who has all the answers we will ever need, who is always there for us willing to guide us and advise us every single day of our life… except that the therapist doesn’t speak English. I can help you completely and thoroughly understand what your built-in therapist is telling you! Getting your dream interpreted is actually a pretty big deal. Like Ashley, you’ll be amazed and thankful once you are able to understand your dream. You can set up a personal reading with me here or you can easily learn to understand your dreams for yourself with one or all three of my FABULOUS dream books. Whether you get a book or opt for a personal reading with me, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner!

“I’m very impressed with your ability to get so much meaning from a dream — and your willingness to get to the bottom of it. Especially for such a great price! I assumed I’d get something far more cookie-cutter for that price. I have so much gratitude!” – Carrie B. Seattle, WA

Because of my career, I get the opportunity to hear thousands upon thousands of dreams. And once in a rare while, someone will tell me they dreamed about me! THOSE are always difficult for me to interpret because… I’m not used to being a dream symbol.

Last week on my blogtalk radio show, Chris from the U.K. called in with a dream about me, and a wild party at my house… and East European hookers!! Have a listen to the audio below as I struggle through making sense of this one.

We finally got to the bottom of it! Chris’s dream is a great example of how, even the most embarrassing dream, has a very relevant and helpful message for you. But what I love most about Chris’s dream is how the dreaming will throw its own party when there is something worth celebrating. And yes, being opened up to the powerful world of dreams is definitely cause for celebration in my book… hookers and all! I mean, what’s a good party without hookers? And goats? Ahem. Anyway…

If you want me to personally break down your dream for you, I do it every Thursday afternoon from 6pm – 7pm EST for free on my blog talk radio show. The number to call is Call (347) 850-8910. I really look forward to chatting with you then!

Whether you’re dreaming of hookers, parties or legs made of noodles, your dreams have a lot to tell you about yourself and about your life. Being able to figure out your dreams is not only fun to do, it’s really eye-opening and empowering, and I’ve written three books that will have you understanding in your dreams no time! Keep one or all of my books on your nightstand so the next time you wake up from a crazy or a disturbing dream, you don’t have to let it bother you! You can simply reach over, grab the book, flip through it and figure it out. There will be plenty of times yet to come where you’ll be glad you have these by your bedside!

“Your books are very helpful. I have a lot better understanding of what my dreams really mean & they have helped me to have a few good dreams too! Thank you!” – Mary, Hartford City, IN

Ever dream of your childhood home? Or what about a home you used to live in? Boy, I sure do! I’ll often dream I’m moving back into the very first home hubby and I bought together. And lately, my dreams have been taking place at the house I grew up in… EVERY NIGHT! I explain why in the audio clip below.

Dreaming of past homes, especially childhood homes is so common because it’s not about the house but about who you were when you lived in that house. The audio below is a great example of this common dream. Peg from New York called into my BlogTalk show The Dream Zone last week and told us that she keeps dreaming she’s back in her childhood home but it’s had some wonderful updates and the bathrooms especially are far more grand than they were when she lived there. Plus, there’s always a spider on the living room floor! Listen to the audio below and find out what this all means. I’ll bet the farm you’ll get some “aha! moments” for yourself when you listen…
As you heard, dreams of our childhood home, even past homes, have a lot to tell us about ourselves and are a wonderful means by which to measure our progress in life. The house dream, whether it is your actual house, a house from your past, or even an unfamiliar dream house, are some of the most important symbols our dreams use because they give us so much information about our self, our current state of mind and even information about our physical health. If you would like to listen to the entire show, you can listen to the podcast here.

It even goes into great detail about what all the different rooms in the house mean. The back and front yards too! Get your copy here and you’ll be able to finally understand what the heck your dreams REALLY mean! It makes a great gift too for any occasion.

The unfamiliar house dream is actually a very common dream. You see, the house – whether it’s your actual house, a house you used to live in or some random dream house – represents YOU! The house in your dream represents everything about you and how you live. The style of the home, the condition of the home, what happens in the home, even the rooms in the home are connected to you and how you feel about your self as well as what is going on inside the psyche that your body houses. The dreaming mind uses the home in order to show you yourself and your state of mind in the form of a physical structure so you can better understand your own personality construct, thought construct and even body construct. Look at your house dreams as an honest blueprint of your current self image.

In most cases, dreaming of an unfamiliar house suggests the dreamer is still getting to know her or himself and is discovering things about themselves they didn’t previously know, like discovering new talents, skills, opinions or ideas. Dave Grohl, being a musician and song writer, it would make sense that he’s constantly coming up with new ideas and opinions. However, the unfamiliar house dream can also mean that you are not feeling “at home” in your current life, that what you are dealing with or where your life is at is not comfortable or what you you think it should be. This could also fit for Dave because in that same US Weekly article he states that he’s been touring almost every year since he was 17. He literally isn’t “at home” a good portion of each year so his life is made up of unfamiliar places.

My latest book Dream on It will help you understand the symbolism in your dreams and find the hidden messages!
