Cheating dreams can be infuriating, worrisome and the cause of many a slap across the face first thing in the morning. In fact, in a recent survey I conducted, with over 5000 participants, the cheating dream came in as the #1 most common dream! As upsetting as these dreams can be, the good news is that they rarely indicate that your mate is getting his or her pleasures elsewhere. They do suggest, however that something rather than someone is taking the time and attention from your mate that you feel you deserve.

The following dream is the perfect example of how the cheating dream runs rampant through our collective psyche… and why! This is from my nationally syndicated newspaper column The Dream Zone:

Dear Lauri,
Since my boyfriend and I started dating over 2 years ago, I constantly have dreams that he’s either cheating on me or that he’s leaving me for another girl. I’m sure he’s not cheating in real life so why am I having these dreams all the time? – Kira 28, Wausau

Lauri: Since you’re certain your boyfriend is as loyal as a Labrador, let’s figure out the other reasons you might be getting these dreams. Is there something else in his life that you are a bit jealous of? Work? The X Box? Is he in a band? Once you can pinpoint what it is that feels like a third wheel in the relationship, it’s time to compromise. Offer to give up or cut back on something your mate isn’t a big fan of if he promises to cut back on the activity that is causing you to feel left out. If you both stick to the compromise, you’ll find that the dreams will stop.

Kira replies: That makes perfect sense! It is definitely our jobs. My boyfriend and I work often and our shifts are always changing so we aren’t able to spend much time together. I know I feel guilty about working long hours many days in a row and I’m sure he does too. Maybe it’s time for a career change! Thank you, I feel much better!

When you can understand the symbolism in your dreams, they wont freak you out anymore. Like Kira, you’ll feel much better too! You’ll also be able to see that they are giving you extremely important messages you need to know to improve your behavior, your relationships, your current issues and your life! It’s a much bigger deal to be able to understand your dreams than you think. If you had a copy of Dream On It on your nightstand, you’d be able to figure out your dreams every single morning!

“This book is fantastic! It’s like having a therapist at your fingertips without the charge.”

Happy Valentine’s Day! Have you noticed that you may be having more dreams about your mate (or your crush) lately? Most of us our dreams are about our relationships this time of year, whether you know it or not.

Why?

Because it is the day for lovers and a time when we actually give our relationship the focus and attention it deserves. However, our dreams can be really bizarre and seem to make no sense, so how can we know when our dreams are about our relationship? I got you covered.

Below are the most common symbols you need to look out for because – more often than not – they are telling you something you need to know about your mate or the current condition of the relationship…

Adultery/cheating – Something has become a third wheel in your relationship. Is your loved one doing too much of something that takes away from the relationship? Your subconscious mind may see it as a ‘mistress’ or another man. Your dream is telling you that you are feeling “cheated” out of your loved one’s time and attention. If you are the one cheating, ask yourself what you may be doing that is taking away from the time your mate needs from you. Is it a new baby? Is it your job? Your friends? Traveling? These dreams are telling you that you and your mate need to find a way to appreciate one another more.

Boat/ship – Your ability to navigate through an emotional situation. If the boat is sinking it means you are getting emotionally overwhelmed, perhaps sinking into a depression or you are getting in over your head. Boats and ships can also point to a romantic relationship; the love boat, two ships passing in the night, etc. The boat in your dream will reflect if your current situation – particularly romantic situation – is smooth sailing or rocky or sinking.

Cat/kittens – Feminine sexual energy. “sex kitten.” A cat biting you can mean a call to intimacy. A sick or starving cat can mean you are having a dry spell. Can also point to independence, aloofness, gossip or “cattiness,” balance or any other qualities you associate with a cat. A predatory cat is your ability to protect your best interests as well as go out on the hunt and get what you want in life. If the cat is a threat in your dream then this part of you is trying to get your attention because it wants you to utilize it in your life.

Dog – Symbolizes someone you feel is a loyal companion. Usually refers to your mate but could also be a friend or co-worker. The state of the dog reflects the current state of your relationship. Could symbolize responsibility, as pets are responsibilities. Could symbolize a fear if you are afraid of dogs. May also symbolize your need or desire to buckle down and train yourself to behave. Look at the type of dog in your dream. What is that type of dog known for? German Shepherd: Best known for being a guard dog or police dog. Are you being or do you need to be guarded when it comes to a particular issue? Are you overly protective? Husky: Best known as a sled dog. Is your relationship becoming a heavy burden? Are you dragging an issue on too long? Dalmation: Is there a “fire” or urgent situation you need to put out? Or is your relationship really heating up?

Water – Your emotional state. The state of the water will reflect the state of your emotions, how you are currently feeling about something in your life such as a relationship. Can also symbolize creative juices. A healing energy. Calm clear water suggests you are clear about emotional decisions. Muddy, murky water is connected to emotional confusion and depression. Rising flooding water means you may be getting in over your head, getting in too deep. An increasingly tough situation. Being under water indicates you are in over your head and feeling overwhelmed.

These definitions were taken straight out of the dictionary portion of my book Cracking The Dream Code, which you can save 30% on when you put “love” in the coupon code at checkout TODAY Only!
“I have a new convert to your book. My niece has been having nightmares for six months. I reluctantly gave her my copy of Cracking The Dream Code. She absolutely loves it. She can’t put it down. I now have to buy a new one! And the dream that was reported the most was the cheating dream! Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I thought it a good time to explore what this upsetting and all too common dream is REALLY about. Below is an excerpt from my illustrated book So, What Did You Dream Last Night?

“Affair dreams,” like sex dreams, are also about uniting with a quality, opinion or behavior… BUT, to the dreamer it is an unwelcome union! We may dream our mate is cheating when we feel he or she has taken on a behavior or attitude that is taking away from the marriage, such as spending too much time at work or on the computer. In these instances the subconscious mind feels “betrayed” and will respond with an affair dream in order to get our attention so that we will deal with the matter at hand.

“Husband Having an Affair”

I dreamed my husband was having an affair. I know he’s not cheating in real life because his office is in the house and we are very happily married. In the dream I went to the hotel they had been meeting at to confront them. I caught a glimpse of the back of “the other woman” right before I woke up. She was wearing a huge sun hat and had a big lizard tail! – Maurine 35, Cheektowaga, New York

Even though Maurine’s hubby is as faithful as a Labrador, her subconscious mind does not see it that way. It feels “betrayed” by his new golf buddies. Maureen and her husband had just moved to a new town, so when her husband befriended some men in the neighborhood who also had an interest in golf, Maureen was actually happy for him. That is, until he spent all his free time with his new friends and adopted their silly slang as his own and used it a little too often. Maureen didn’t want to burst his bubble and therefore became very lonely. Her dreaming mind then intervened and said, “He may as well be having an affair! You need to do something!”

Her motivation in this dream was to confront her husband. In her attempt to do so she was able to see “the other woman,” the thing that was taking away from the marriage. The message from this dream lies in what she saw. The giant sun hat indicates something is being covered up – Maureen kept her loneliness “under wraps.” Backs and tails are both things that are “behind” us and will often symbolize the past. Lizard lady is letting Maureen know that she needs to confront hubby so that the issue can be put “behind” them and made like the lizards of long ago… “extinct.”
