Great info here! I also can see that by not allowing herself to cry is also draining her, as expressed by the blood coming from the heart. For some weird and to me at least, a VERY unhealthy rule in society, is that if we cry, we are "weak", however, crying is actually GOOD for us to do as long as it's not too often! After we cry, the brain comforts us by releasing feel good neurotransmitters dopamine, adrenaline (yes, adrenaline is a feel good hormone!) phenylethylamine (better known as endorphins). So by not allowing oneself to cry, they are not getting rid of toxins caused by the most potent stress hormone, cortisol, which might be another this dream is sending her to the emergency room. However, too much crying can DEPLETE the feel good neurotransmitters as well!

By not getting the stress "off of her chest" it's "bleeding" her, and if she DOESN'T find a way to feel better, her dreaming mind will keep sending her to the ER.

I had a pretty bad nightmare about my sister a while ago, but I think I found out what it means! Mainly appendicitis, her bossing me around, not taking my illness seriously etc. I'll give you more details later.

BTW quick question. Does "mare" at the end of nightmare mean something like "female incubus (succubus) that oppresses the sleeper"? I recall reading something about that recently.
