Traffic jams are quite the blood boiler during waking hours, so why do we have to sometimes deal with them in our dreams when we should be resting and de-stressing? Sheesh!
Well, the answer is simple; a traffic jam dream comes to you when it’s time to “un-jam” your life… before things get out of hand.
Last night I had a dream that I was in a traffic jam because there was an accident up ahead. The only way out of the jam was to drive on the opposite side of the road. I woke up as I was making my way over to drive up the wrong way to the intersection so I could continue on my way. – Nancy 54, San Francisco, CA
Lauri: The traffic jam represents some blockage in your waking life. What area of your life is at a standstill right now, most likely due to confusion or too much on your plate? Whatever it is, your dream is showing you that the way to free yourself is to back out of something, hence going the wrong way on the freeway. What in your life do you think would be best to “reverse course” on? The accident in your dream is “up ahead” meaning, if you don’t back out of this situation there is likely to be a problem for you in waking life “just down the road,” perhaps even an emotional crash.
Nancy replies: Wow! There IS a lot on my plate. We have money issues but I think those are just about over. I was in an accident four years ago that has left me with Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, which means I am in pain all the time and always trying to find medications to help. Work is really busy and my husband is, well, being a husband. I think the “emotional” crash is what I am heading for if I don’t slow down and take some time for myself because – as we all hate to admit – we do everything for everyone but very little for ourselves. This condition can have periods of depression which I believe I am headed for if I just don’t take some me time and this dream might be that warning sign. Amazing stuff!
What’s interesting about the crash in Nancy’s dream, is that it not only is warning her of a looming emotional crash, but it is also referring to the very thing that caused her chronic pain. That’s an important element to remember when trying to understand the meaning in your dreams: like the game of connect the dots, everything in your dream can be connected to something in your waking life. That’s why it is so very important to be able to understand your dreams. Like Nancy, you can get warnings of what might be around the corner if you don’t change something. You can get advise on how to fix your current situation. You can even get creative ideas for your music, book or other creative project. Never EVER dismiss something as “just a dream,” because when you do, you are dismissing the very best advice you’d been given that day.
My book Cracking The Dream Code has a comprehensive dream dictionary of 1000 symbols fully explained: planes, fish, dogs, death, you name it, this book covers it! You’ll also learn how to remember your dreams, how to understand all the different parts of your dreams and even how to dream about anything you want!! And it makes a great gift!!
“I’m loving Cracking The Dream Code. I have very clear and detailed dreams and look to them for advice when I have things going on in my life but have not always been sure what my dreams have meant. The book is great and I am already using it. I hope I can learn to understand them as well as you do.” – Crystal Park, Gainesville, FL
