The following is an excerpt from the Location Chapter of my latest book Dream On It, Unlock Your Dreams Change Your Life…

Unfortunately, the most popular dream location is not a sunny beach in Maui or even the Champs-Élysées in Paris! Nay, t’is the cinder blocked halls of our old alma mater. Even if you graduated ten, twenty, even fifty years ago, your dreaming mind keeps pulling you back into chemistry class wearing nothing but your Nikes or roaming the halls trying to find your locker.

The reason school is such a popular dream locale is because the dynamics of the school setting continue on into your job or career and also into your social life. School is where you first learn the importance of being on time and meeting deadlines, it is where you learn how to prepare and “do your homework,” it is where you learn how to deal with scrutiny, how to move on up the ladder, and also how to fit in. Basically, it’s where you learn all your basic job skills and social skills. School dreams are most often connected to your work life and slightly less often connected to your social life.

One of the more common school dream is the dream where you are back at school, and you know you have already graduated but find out you have to do a class or your senior year all over again. The main thought in these frustrating dreams is that you’ve already done this, why do you have to do it again? Grrrr! This dream thought is connected to the waking reality that you are in a situation where you have to prove yourself. You know you’ve got what it takes, but someone else needs to be shown you’ve got the goods.

I dreamed I was back in high school because I had to take my senior year all over again. As I was walking the halls I was trying to figure out how I could fit school into my current life of work and raising a child. I also wondered what all the students would think of me. I figured that, since I’m older and wiser now, perhaps the students would really like me and that I should also be able to breeze through all my classes.
- Dina 41

Lauri: Sounds like you must be in a waking life situation where you are feeling the need to prove yourself to others. Look at work first as most back at school dreams are triggered by work issues. Are you having to relearn something? Do you have a new boss or co-worker you need to impress? If work doesn’t seem to fit then look at your social life. You are very concerned in the dream of what others will think of you. Is there someone in waking life with whom you’d like to make a good impression? The good news is that your confidence at the end of the dream will certainly penetrate into your waking life situation so I wouldn’t sweat it.

Dina replies: This absolutely fits what is going on in my life. My family just moved to a new state two months ago. I don’t know a soul here. My next door neighbor invited me to a coffee social at her house. I am very nervous about meeting new people and worry how I may come across to them. I was a social butterfly in my previous town so deep down I know I’ll get along just fine. I like how my dream is reassuring me. That’s cool.

Dreams can indeed be reassuring. What we are unsure of in waking life, our inner self is certain of in dream life. Dina’s dream was reassuring her about the social area of her life by comparing this new social pressure to the social pressures of high school: wanting to be liked and wanting to fit in. Unlike her time in high school, she has learned her social graces and is a seasoned pro. Nothing to worry about.

Yes, the majority of school dreams can be connected to your job because school was, essentially, your first job. And like school, your job is a place you have to get up every morning and go to and do what is expected of you and deal with the people there, some you like and some you don’t, and try to improve your skills so you can eventually move up to the next level. But sometimes it is the social or learning aspect of school that plays a role in its meaning. When you have to deal with a social issue, when you have to learn a new skill, or even when life throws a lesson at you during the day, you may find yourself in the hallowed halls of learning at night.

Got a loved one who’s about to graduate? Why not send them off to follow their dreams with an autographed dream book? Being able to understand their dreams will help them with every single part of their life… for the rest of their life! And they’ll think of you every time they get an “Aha! moment.”

“I received your wonderful books today! They are amazing and your writing is funny!! Anyway, I LOVE the books!!” – Donna Copman

When someone we love passes away, it is so very difficult to continue to live without them… especially when that person passes way unexpectedly, way before their time. In all my years of dream research, it still amazes me how wonderfully comforting our dreams can be. They are a built-in healing mechanism, carrying us through the grief process. It’s like, they somehow know exactly what we need to hear, and what we need to know. And sometimes, it’s like they are a conduit from the other side, allowing us to receive that final, and much needed message from our loved one.

Below is a message I got from a young lady who recently lost her brother. It’s a beautiful example of the powerful and healing messages our dreams bring to us when we are deeply grieving. Get your Kleenex ready!!

***
PLEASE HELP LAURI! This dream is haunting me.

My big brother Daren passed away January 21st 2013. Last night, I dreamt of him, a dream that has haunted me. My siblings, my husband and I sat in a modern room, on large leather sofas. We were all looking at what appeared to be a large movie screen. The screen was white and the scene was that of a long white hallway. At the end of this hallway there was a door, also in white. We sat watching.

The door slowly opened and through the entrance my brother stepped over the threshold and into the long hallway. He looked younger than when he passed, he appeared to be clean, healthy and freshly shaven. The only thing he was wearing was a leather loin cloth; like that you would see Jesus wearing at the time of his crucifixion.

Brown leather straps wrapped each of his wrists. His left hand wrapped the handle of a very large dagger that curved into a “C” at the tip. He moved slowly toward us. His walk tall and his eyes forward. After what seemed like a minute he began weeping, he then spoke.

“Do you forgive me?” He asked. Horrified, those of us watching the screen yelled “YES!!!” through tears.

He slowly turned, and when he did his back was marked with three very distinct tattoos. Three large circles, the circles appeared to be twisted ram horns.

“Do you forgive me?!!” He cried out, his back facing us.

We all again yelled “YES WE FORGIVE YOU!!”

He then lifted the dagger up and over his head and began slicing his back open, blood poured from his flesh. Those of us watching screamed for him to stop. My husband quickly jumped up and grabbed a blanket and ran for the screen, he ran right through it and to my brother who stood slicing his flesh with the dagger. My husband attempted to wrap the blanket around my brother, but he pushed him away.

“DO YOU FORGIVE ME!!??” He cried out in agony as he tore at his back.

Desperate for him to hear us, and horrified at the sight of his flesh being torn open I quickly stood and ran through the screen. I made my way around to face him. I placed my hand on his face and whispered through a flood of tears and emotion,

“Daren, we forgive you.”

His beautiful blue eyes searched mine when his voice again spoke, shaken and full of sadness.

“Rainee, do you forgive me?” I quickly wrapped my arms around him, I could feel his blood and flesh warm on my hands.

“Yes my brother, I forgive you.” I sobbed.

He then dropped the dagger and fell into my arms, which brought us both to the floor. I held my brother, wounded and bleeding in this white space behind a screen.

This dream has left me very much unsettled and I need desperately to understand so much of it. The screen, the straps that bound his wrists, the tattoos and the dagger and slicing of his flesh. This dream will forever haunt me. Please help me understand the message. I am begging you.
- Sincerely, Rainee

MY RESPONSE: I think this dream is a reflection of your inner struggle over your brother’s death. Did he take his own life? Or did his actions lead to his death? The way he keeps asking for forgiveness suggests you have been harboring anger towards him. I have suicide in my family so I know how angry it can make you feel towards the person that took their own life. Even if his death was not intentional, it seems like you – at some point – blamed him for it.

Through this dream, you are letting that anger go.

The way his wrists are bound is interesting. It seems to suggest he was chained or bound someway to the point that he would not bend for others or himself. Was there an addiction or something?

The way he is carving at his own flesh suggests that you feel his death was of his own doing and whatever emotional pain he had in real life was of his own doing. But the bound wrists suggest he was a slave to some degree. The depression or the addiction or perhaps even a mental disorder was stronger than he was.

The C shaped dagger is important. Did he have cancer? Or an addiction to cocaine? I don’t know, you may need to put on your thinking cap and see if you can connect the C to your brother.

The twisted rams horns are also interesting. Was he an Aries? If not, then they may represent that he was hard headed, hard to get through to and perhaps butted heads with others. The twisting may mean that you feel his mind was twisted, he was not himself.

The fact that it was a tattoo that he seemed to be tearing at with the dagger, I believe, is the way you are tearing away at the idea of his addiction, depression, whatever it was, as a permanent identity of him. Again, whatever he did that lead to his death, that is not who he really is (I say is because he still is… just in different form).

The white room, the threshold, that is his new beginning. He is born again. He has a pure new life. Your dreaming mind wants you to see this but you have to forgive, and let go of the anger so you can see him as he truly is now: new, pure, pain free… free!

RAINEE’S REPLY: Oh Lauri, my breath was taken when reading your reply, a reply which I so appreciate more than you can ever understand. I know this is your livelihood, and I am wiling to pay you for this remarkable and phenomenal interpretation which has left me feeling at peace. A feeling I have not had since January. I literally received a whisper from within to just try to reach you, that I would gain understanding to this dream. I am so glad I listened to that whisper.

My brother was an amazing man, he and I were cut from the same cloth. He battled addiction, cocaine and pills his entire life. After the passing of my father in Nov. 2011 his depression worsened and with that so did his addiction. Daren passed away due to an accidental overdose leaving us all devastated and me, angry. I do forgive him and will continue to send my love to him out into the universe. Lauri, thank you so much for taking the time to read and interpret my dream. Your words have helped me see what I have needed to see for months. You have brought peace to my aching soul. Thank you.

Are you having dreams that you can’t shake? The more intense the dream, the more important the message… and I can help you get that message. Don’t let it go to waste. Set up a private reading with me here. You’ll be so glad you did.

“Your interpretation was most helpful. I cried and got goosebumps when I read it for it was true! You have great insights and are blessed with God’s wisdom. Are you sure you are not psychic? Seems like it to me or perhaps clairvoyant.”

If you have never had that dream where you’re back at your high school or college, wandering the halls trying to find your locker or sitting in Algebra class freaking out because you didn’t study for the test, then you might not be normal!

The back at school dream is in the top three most common dreams that is reported to me… daily! In fact, when I was on Katie Couric’s show, she told me her 90 year old mother STILL gets it! And that is good testimony to the fact that 10, 20 even 70 years after we graduate we still find ourselves, from time to time, within those cinder block walls at night.

I’m a victim of this dream too. There are many versions of the back at school dream and the one I get the most is where I find out I have to take my senior year or sometimes even all 4 years of high school all over again, even though I know I graduated. In fact, I had it just the other night and the very next morning when I was on the air on Beach 104 in Nags Head, NC one of the morning show hosts told me he had that same version of the dream the night before as well! So that inspired me to blog about it because, clearly, it’s an epidemic!

My dream: I was back in the house I lived in in Nashville and I was putting on my old Catholic high school uniform. I was very upset because I had to take my whole senior year all over again even though I was certain I had already graduated. I was saying to myself, as I was getting dressed, “This is ridiculous! I don’t have time to spend all day at school. I have a son to raise and a business to run. I’ve done this already. I’m just going to tell them no, I’m not doing this.” THEN I’m walking through my junior high trying to find my locker and realizing I don’t even know my class schedule. Thankfully Marlo Thomas shows up and takes me to my class.

What it means: Usually, back at school dreams can be connected to what is going on in your job or career in real life. The stress you are dealing with in the dream should seem similar to the stress you are experiencing in waking life in your job.

Having to take my senior year all over again - This dream happens whenever I feel I have to prove myself in my career, whenever I have to prove to others that I know what I’m doing, that I have the knowledge, etc. This dream is so common for me, as you can imagine, because I am constantly having to prove that dreams actually have meaning AND that I really do know how to make sense of them. Now, this particular dream is connected to stress I was having over my Blogtalk radio show. The day before, my co-host Frankie and I were doing the show but were having all kinds of technical difficulties and I was ready to forget it and just reschedule the show for the following week. But I had been in that situation before, being on air with technical difficulties and managed to get through it. That’s why, in my dream, I said to myself, “I’ve done this already!” Whatever you tell yourself in a dream is always important because it is usually direction or reassurance you are giving yourself for your waking life. Even if another character in your dream is telling you something, it’s really YOU telling yourself.

Didn’t have my class schedule - When you can’t find your class or your locker in a dream or don’t have your schedule, it can be connected to uncertainty you are having about where you are in your job or career field. Maybe you aren’t in the right job for you or maybe you aren’t yet where you feel you should be in the corporate ladder, for example. For me, it is uncertainty about my Blogtalk radio show. I’ve been doing it for only a couple of months now and there are some uncertainties surrounding it. Is it going to be successful? Are people enjoying it? Are they learning from it? Where is it going to wind up? And after all that technical trouble and stress I had from the show the day before this dream, I was definitely questioning where this was going to go.

Marlo Thomas leading the way – Whenever you get a celebrity in your dream, it is usually more about what that celebrity is best known for (such as a song, a character they may have played or even a movie or show they were in) rather than it being about the celebrity. To me, when I think of Marlo Thomas I think of the 60′s sitcom she starred in called That Girl. Every show ended with someone exclaiming, “That girl!” in reference to Marlo’s character being the one that bungled something up or perhaps even did something right. In other words, she was always being identified and singled out at the end of each show and she was leading the way to where I was supposed to be in the dream because I need to remember that I am “that girl” people rely on to help them understand their dreams. This is who I am so no need to be so uncertain.

As for the morning show host who had the same version of the back at school dream, well, he was actually a fill-in host for the regular morning guy. And he was having to prove that he had the know-how to handle the morning show.

I just love putting the pieces of a puzzling dream together and finding the big picture! Being able to figure out your dreams isn’t just fun, it’s unbelievably helpful to your life!! We all are being given answers, directions, even warnings in our dreams every single night through our dreams… you just have to know how to understand the language and piece it together. It’s really not that hard. That’s why I wrote Dream On It, so the YOU can do this too, so that YOU can get those powerful messages hiding in your dreams, so that YOU can improve every area of your life by understanding the wisdom of your very own dreaming mind. Get yourself a copy and start understanding your dreams like never before!

What you may not know is that after the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, hundreds of people reported that they had dreams and premonitions of the ship’s demise. Nineteen of those experiences were authenticated.

How?

A precognitive dream or vision is authenticated when a third party can confirm that the dream or vision was written down or relayed to a second party before the waking life incident actually happens.

Eva Hart was a Titanic survivor and her mother was one of the authenticated cases. She talks about it here.

Ships and boats in dreams

*The following is an excerpt from the Travel and Vehicle Dreams chapter of my latest book Dream On It (that just got it’s 11th five star review on Amazon, btw!)…

Ships and boats travel on water, and water – to the dreaming mind – is connected to your emotions. Like water, emotions are fluid, ever-changing and often run deep. So when you find yourself on a boat or a ship in a dream, it is because you are embarking on an emotional journey in waking life.

Most often, boats and ships in dreams are related to the emotional relationship path. Again, if you look at the figures of speech we use involving these vessels, you’ll see why: the love boat, two ships passing in the night, he’s a dream boat, etc.

I was in a boat speeding across the ocean toward the rocky cliffs. My ex was in the boat, driving. We were going straight toward the cliff, sure to collide with no slowing down. I woke up before the impact. – Darcey 47

Lauri: Your relationship with your ex must be rocky, hence the rocky cliffs. What once was a love boat has become a vessel of doom. Is he the driving force behind the turmoil? Your dream is warning you that you two are on the verge of disaster and close to the point of no return if one of you doesn’t “trim your sails.”

Darcey replies: That makes total sense. We are like fire and ice. We have shared custody of the children, who are 4 and 6 years old. It is extremely difficult for us to even converse without tension and verbal fighting. Whenever we do have an exchange, there is guaranteed fighting. We fight about their clothes and who has them, about finances, school needs, etc. Sometimes he even throws in going to court and making me pay child support or getting full custody.

Darcey’s boat dream has a pretty clear message for her. She has allowed her ex to take control of the helm of their relationship path and is steering it rapidly to the point of no return.

The message of ship and boat dreams: You have embarked on an emotional journey, whether it be a relationship, a business venture or something else of equal significance. Remember that the state of the water, the condition of the vessel, and how well it is traveling will clue you in to whether you should stay aboard or abandon ship.

The Vehicle and Travel Dreams chapter in Dream On It also covers Car, Plane, Truck, Train, Bus, Motorcycle, Bicycle, Space Travel and more!

“I love, love, love this new book from Lauri! I have referred to it for a different reason every single day since I got it. It’s been really great and helped me realize all my dreams point to…transportation i.e. my path in life. It’s been eye-opening and all the girls in my office want to borrow it. I love how she writes and breaks everything down into simple terms.” – Heather, Wichita, KS

What’s the craziest thing that has ever happened to your body in your dreams? Me, I’ve had missing body parts, I’ve had my teeth fall out, I’ve even had strange things come out of my body! I’ve also had dreams where something crazy was happening to someone else’s body! In the dream world, the array of bodily afflictions are endless… and can often be hilarious!

Last week on my Blog Talk radio show, we talked about The 5 Most Common Bodily Affliction Dreams and also invited listeners to call in with their weird body dreams. And boy, did they call in! One of my favorites was caller Brenda’s dream about her daughter’s dismembered and rather chatty head! Have a listen below to listen to this hilarious dream AND to find out what the heck it means!

See how a funny and somewhat disturbing dream actually revealed to Brenda how much her daughter’s leaving the nest is really making her feel? That’s one of the purposes of dreaming, to help us see our current situation in a different light so that we can better understand the situation and especially, better understand our self. In real life Brenda has been trying to stay positive and be excited for her daughter but in her dream life, we see the truth: Brenda is having a hard time with the “dismemberment” of her daughter. In other words, her daughter leaving the nest is a “member” of the family being cut off from the tree.

What can she take from this? Well, now that she knows that this is really starting to get to her. she can hug her daughter a little tighter, spend a little more time with her and squeeze as much as she can out of these last remaining moment of her baby still being under her wing. Sigh…

In my latest book Dream On It, Unlock Your Dreams Change Your Life, there is an entire chapter on body dreams and what all the different parts of our body mean in dream language as well as what all the strange things that can happen to our body really mean! The body chapter also covers Teeth, Hair, Eyes, Chest, Hands, Stomach, Butt, Legs, Feet, Genitals, Pregnancy and Birth and more!

Because of my career, I get the opportunity to hear thousands upon thousands of dreams. And once in a rare while, someone will tell me they dreamed about me! THOSE are always difficult for me to interpret because… I’m not used to being a dream symbol.

Last week on my blogtalk radio show, Chris from the U.K. called in with a dream about me, and a wild party at my house… and East European hookers!! Have a listen to the audio below as I struggle through making sense of this one.

We finally got to the bottom of it! Chris’s dream is a great example of how, even the most embarrassing dream, has a very relevant and helpful message for you. But what I love most about Chris’s dream is how the dreaming will throw its own party when there is something worth celebrating. And yes, being opened up to the powerful world of dreams is definitely cause for celebration in my book… hookers and all! I mean, what’s a good party without hookers? And goats? Ahem. Anyway…

If you want me to personally break down your dream for you, I do it every Thursday afternoon from 6pm – 7pm EST for free on my blog talk radio show. The number to call is Call (347) 850-8910. I really look forward to chatting with you then!

Whether you’re dreaming of hookers, parties or legs made of noodles, your dreams have a lot to tell you about yourself and about your life. Being able to figure out your dreams is not only fun to do, it’s really eye-opening and empowering, and I’ve written three books that will have you understanding in your dreams no time! Keep one or all of my books on your nightstand so the next time you wake up from a crazy or a disturbing dream, you don’t have to let it bother you! You can simply reach over, grab the book, flip through it and figure it out. There will be plenty of times yet to come where you’ll be glad you have these by your bedside!

“Your books are very helpful. I have a lot better understanding of what my dreams really mean & they have helped me to have a few good dreams too! Thank you!” – Mary, Hartford City, IN

We all have a whole other body we inhabit when we dream… and it can really be put through the wringer! Our teeth fall out, our legs stop working or sometimes our brain oozes out of our feet! (That’s in the audio below) Whatever affliction or deformity your dream body experiences, it’s important to know that all the different parts of your body – to your dreaming mind – represent your waking life skills and abilities. And I don’t mean your ability to play the guitar but rather your ability to be a good listener, your ability to express yourself, etc., basically your emotional and psychological abilities.

The audio of the dream below is a great example of how a dream of an afflicted body part, or rather TWO afflicted body parts, is really a commentary on the dreamer’s psychological abilities. In this case, her ability to change her perspective and her ability to use her knowledge. This audio is from my weekly show The Dream Zone on Blogtalk radio, which you can hear or call into and let me interpret your dream for free every Thursday afternoon from 6 – 7pm EST.
That was a helluva dream, huh? Do you see how a seemingly gross and bizarre dream really does have meaning… once you know how to put the pieces together? Sue’s dream was giving her reassurance that she has the knowledge needed that will help her stay put at her job so it’s time to rid herself of her fear.

Your body dreams have a lot to tell you too! Look at your body dreams as an X-Ray that allows you to peer deep into yourself in order to get a clearer, more descriptive picture of how functional or dysfunctional, healthy or broken all your emotional and psychological parts are.
